The IPD is launching a UK residential housing price index. I trust they have followed the US housing derivatives history closely. ; )
Deutsche Boerse's derivatives exchange Eurex is planning to launch Europe's first property futures market in February 2009, based on Britain's largest UK commercial properties index.
Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Housing futures and options are financial tools that make it possible to trade U.S. real estate values. These products provide opportunities for protection or profit in up or down markets, and extend to the housing industry the same tools for risk management and investment that previous futures and options products have brought to agriculture and finance.
For investors and traders, Altos Research publishes the Altos Real Time Price Index™. The Index monitors properties in the same metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) as those captured in the S&P Case Shiller Housing Price Index (CSI) and the Radar Logic RPX upon which the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) bases its housing futures markets. The result is an analysis and index value that is highly correlated to the CSI value released 12 weeks later.
Ira Artman examines a housing price correction scenario partly based upon the last major down cycle. The full post is here. This prior-based cycle forecast extends this price decline another 60+ months. Listed housing derivatives extend to 2013 and OTC can go to 2016.
